Chickens in the Basement

I love to write and I love to laugh. When I write, I get to the point quick. My stories would fit on the back of a postcard. They usually make me chuckle. And you know what they say, "It's all about me!"

Be Careful What You Release Into the Universe...

Last week, I told ya'll I love storms. The sound of rain on the roof...the breeze that blows the storm in...the power of thunder and lightning...even the limbs and pine cones that fall during the storm.
~~~
I TAKE IT ALL BACK! I DON'T LIKE STORMS ANY MORE!
~~~
I got a call at work this afternoon that Riley Dog was cowering under the table and it was thundering like crazy. Thank heavens I had the forethought to get Rick to unplug my laptop, just in case.
~~~
I didn't tell him to unplug the kettle, the stereo, the DVD player, the phones, the chargers, the answering machine, and possibly a few more things I haven't yet discovered! Of course, the house was smacked by a huge bolt of lightning! These appliances and entertainment devices no longer work! I don't know why the TV didn't blow up, but I won't challenge that one.
~~~
I still love the feel of a storm, but that lightning needs to stay the heck out of my yard!

AND you're drinking protein shakes to boot. You're lucky everything didn't burst into flames!

Here's the cure: Eat everything in the freezer (bonus if there is ice cream). Then cook up all that is in the fridge and feed it to your family and pets.

Dance naked in the yard and pray to Mother Nature to stop the madness.

It works, I swear.

Saturday my sis, dad and I were caught out DRIVING in a storm. Well, let me rephrase that - - - they were riding, I was driving. The rain was driving down so hard I couldn't see, and we were hydroplaning, and then we hit a puddle and something under the hood got all wet and the check engine light came on and I was gripping the steering wheel and PRAYING just to be able to GET OFF THAT HIGHWAY!!!

Whew - - - we made it home, but it was a NASTY one.

Well, at least you have the laptop. We had storms go through here a couple of times today - you sure you aren't my neighbor? Somebody got a big hit behind us! It made things rattle in here! Lots of Lightning, but very little rain. So... is the tv ok or just didn't blow up? Wow, maybe time to call the insurance man, Ya think? You are SO lucky the house didn't catch on fire! Poor Riley Dog!!! I think that would scar Jack for life....... wait a minute, he is! (He's still hiding in his spot)

Was anyone home? That must have been scary! I guess I'll pay more attention to lightening do's and don'ts in the future. Glad nobody got hurt. Yes dearie, be careful what you wish for.

Wow! Glad you are alright!

Very frightening!

Whoa! Sorry! My Mom always tells me to stay off the phone, and don't take a shower..cuz the lightening can come through the line, and through the water pipes. That would be my luck, "Woman fried in her shower". "All that was left was her gold tooth". Zootsuitmama

Aw Man! There was one really close to our house too this afternoon! I'm glad it didn't hit the house! I'm sorry RileyDog was so freaked out. I hope he recovers quickly from that scare!

The only thing I unplug is my DVD recorder, because it got fried during a storm a year ago. You'd think we would unplug everything by now...

We have a cat that doesn't like thunder or lightning. She hides under the bed in our bedroom.

Nice to meet you. Found you through Randy's blog. :)

OMG!
Thats really scary!
I like Barbara's cure the best- and if you had no ice cream in the freezer then best go out and buy some, it's the best remedy for eveything!
S'long as you and your family are safe, what's a kettle here and there!

We lost a tv once that way. At least you and the family and pets are all safe. Yeah lightining is pretty when it's 30 miles away. Bummer.

Oh my gosh!!! That's crazy! I'm just glad that all animals are still working! And your laptop... that way I can harass you.

It's 'cause you have such an electric personality...

Wow! I am glad it didn't start a fire!! Sorry about all your appliances.

Amber Von Felts said...

Do you have any lightening rods? Our wise old neighbor back east had them on his house. I thought they were the coolest things! I hope electric appliances are the extent of your damage. You are lucky you didn't wake up in Oz!

YIKES! Law of Attraction is a powerful thing. Hope everyone is OK and not too rattled.

Oh my gosh! Thank heavens no one was hurt... I hope you've been able to replace everything. Did insurance cover any of it? I'll be praying that everything works out:)

Oh my goodness! We lost a TV once when a strike went between our house and our neighbors. She lost her stove and I lost the TV. Scary stuff for sure!

The day I was driving on the interstate and saw a bolt of lightening drop out of the sky and smash into the pavement not a half-football field away was pretty memorable for me! We've been having some HUGE thunder & lightening events (it being Spring in the South and all) but very little rain. The deluge usually occurs when I'm driving somewhere, though. As soon as the thunder starts the dogs freak out--if it's the middle of the night, Holly crawls up on the pillows and sits on my head and Boogie tries her best to get up on the bed (I usually let her up, poor thing). I stopped enjoying storms the year when it rained for 3 days straight and we got 24" and I was trapped in my house. Give Riley dog a hug from the girls and tell him they totally understand!

So did dancing naked in the yard work? Are you still alive?

I am so sorry about the storm damages. Will your insurance replace anything ruined?

Sorry haven't stopped by for a bit, got involved in "Farmville". Have you ever tried that?

Hope everything gets back to normal soon enough... and

BAD LIGHTNING.. NOW GO HOME!

How scary!! I was on the phone with a friend in Iowa last night and she had to hang up and take cover. The country is getting hit with some wild weather. Take care!

Thank God you're okay, but I'd be really, really mad about all the losses!

Anna, that is a major catastrophe! We never unplug a darn thing...might need to take your blog post into consideration next time I hear thunder! Hope you can get it all working again without spending lots of $$$.

Oh dear! My lap top sits on a table near my bed, and everytime I see or hear thunder/ lightning I roll over in bed and yank the power cord from the wall!
