Chickens in the Basement

I love to write and I love to laugh. When I write, I get to the point quick. My stories would fit on the back of a postcard. They usually make me chuckle. And you know what they say, "It's all about me!"

Sleepovers, Flowers and Storms

For the first time in years, Neighbor Mary spent the night away from home. Actually, it's the second time. The first time she left home, she went to Russia and came home with two fabulous kids! But, I digress! Last night, she and her human crew flew to Baltimore to see an Oriole's baseball game. With so many babes to care for, I wound up with a couple of cages in my garage!

The peacock is on the perch and two guineas are snuggled in the corner. Even with temperatures in the upper 90's, we had to keep the heat lamps on the babies. They like temperatures of 100 degrees.

Also along for the sleepover were two baby ducks. One had been grabbed by a hawk and has stitches in her hind end. The other one has a hurt foot. They are good company for each other while they recuperate! I love filling up their water bowl and watching them gulp and splash in it!

Riley Dog wasn't thrilled with sharing his space with lowly birds. He fell out in the liriope and pouted for a while.

It was dusk when I headed out with my camera and got some pretty shots of blooms in the yard. This is a butterfly bush that volunteered. All of the ones I dug holes for, fertilized and watered have died! I'll take volunteers!

Bee balm keeps Neighbor Dave's bees happy! I guess they had all gone to bed by the time I got out for a photo shoot!

Doesn't everyone love yellow daisies? Are there any flowers that look happier than these?

Look at the close up and tell me it doesn't chase away a bad mood!

The red is getting ready to bust out of this flower. I'll take another photo in a few days. For the life of me, I can't remember what this one is called. If anyone knows, please leave me a comment. A full-bloom photo might be more helpful in identifying!

We have had some beautiful storms lately. The photo above shows the storm rolling in this afternoon. We got a nice rain that cooled the temperatures off quite a bit. I love the light rays shining through the clouds.

This one is from a storm last week. The sky was the prettiest shade of purple in the midst of it all.
Do you like storms?

Wonderful photos of your lowers!

And yes, I love LOVE rain storms. It's 100-110F here for a solid 6-7 months a year, very little rain. So when it comes, it's a welcome relief!

I wish it were raining here right now like it is there.

We have had some thunderstorms (lightening and all) in the last week and I just love them. I do not miss the scary storms we used to have back home, tho.

we have lots of volunteers in our garden this year, too. lots and lots of tomato plants. they are everywhere! And, a butterfly bush has just appeared in amongst the ecinachea. No idea how or why. AND, that huge bleeding heart we have is also a volunteer...no idea from whence it came. Strange.

As for altered books....you can google it, but they are old books that have been remade into new ones. You can also dig back thru my blog and find some samples of ones I have done. They are what got me started on this artful journey and while I don't make as many as I used to, I still love them.

The yellow daisy made me smile OUT LOUD!
We have something similar to the red, called crocosmia.
You're doing a good job nannying there with your guests- my friend Joanne, in whose stable Bruce lodges, is away today (for the first time) and I'm in charge of putting her 6 horses to bed tonight.
I hope I do everything right for her!
xx

love the baby pics. I liked storms when I was little and we would play inside making forts out of quilts and stuff and could bring the cats in out of the rain. Don't care too much for storms now, I guess b/c I don't want to clean up the limbs and stuff outside after the storm and the crew only wants to eat during a storm.

Your neighbor is lucky to have you to help with all the babes. CUTE. And I love lovelove storms. Not hurricanes, but good ol fashioned thunderstorms. As a matter of fact I wanted a tin roof instead of shingle so I can hear the pitter patter of a good rain. At night whenit thunders low and a bit of far away lightning, very cool. Is that weird?

Wow, beautiful photos all around! I love summer thunderstorms but we just don't get them here...summer or otherwise. If we hear thunder or see lightning, it is a rare occasion! We get rain but it is usually courteous and only rains at night...ah, SoCal. Thank you for sharing yours with us!

I love storms. Especially at night when I'm going to sleep. Being warm and snuggled in the bed makes me feel so safe and the pitter patter of the rain lulls me into a quiet slumber.

I adore volunteers. I say that around here and all I get back is a blank stare and drooling.....

As for the sleepovers, I want to come...I'd have way to much fun playing with the babies!
