Chickens in the Basement

I love to write and I love to laugh. When I write, I get to the point quick. My stories would fit on the back of a postcard. They usually make me chuckle. And you know what they say, "It's all about me!"

I Posted Too Soon

After I posted yesterday, I walked out to the henhouse to check on the girls. When I opened the door, this is what I saw. Cora is such a good buddy to Shakira, but if she were required to sit on a pile of eggs, she wouldn't make it more than 12 hours! Not a mothering bone in her body!

On the floor in the corner sat Shakira. She has been in this dang blue box for 26 days!
And, what did I see peeping at me from under Shakira's wing?

This cute little fellow! He's so little!

Can you tell how small he is?

I introduced him to water and he had his first snack. Shakira feasted on my hand!

These are the remaining six eggs still in the nest. They have until Saturday...

On the way to the dump this morning, I didn't even make it out of my driveway before I had to stop and take a photo. This cardinal jumped from one chicken head to another.

And this guy was on the windshield of my truck. I guess I need to clean my window since you can't see the garage door through all the scuzz! He hung on for nearly a half a mile!
NOTE: Did you notice I'm already calling this cute little chick HIM? I didn't realize I was doing that until I re-read the post! Does anybody have a good name for this cutey?

Oh, a little gray baby!! I, city girl, was expecting yellow!! I hope she gets another hatchling!!

As for your mosquito, I'd name him Squished.

The little baby that was under Shakira is adorable! Too bad they have to get bigger.

Thanks for visiting my post. The yard with the sign asking for someone to mow it was mowed today and looks much nicer. I felt bad for them since they must not have had a lawnmower or wasn't able to do the work.

Have a good week,
julie

Awwww what a darling! I love Shakira's face when she looks at him.

Speck, definitely.

Or you could name him the word verification word, which is Abfulati. People will really wonder about you, but that's okay.

Awww, how cute! What to name "him"? Well, with a chicken names Shakira, I'm sure you will come up with something. How in the world did she come to be named Shakira anyway?

LOL at the cardinal. Good girl: always have your camera.

Hey, I just had a dream about you. I dreamt you were on Top Chef and I had been watching an "Anna" on there most of the season before I realized it was you. I was so excited. Isn't that funny?

I hate it when I post prematurely. I'm usually hesitant to name others' animals (as fun as it is to name them), but Shakira was on American Idol this week, and performed with Rascal Flats (hate 'em). But how about Rascal? Just an idea! Have a great weekend!

That thing on your windshield makes it look like you're doing a remake of "The Mist". Yuck! And yes, I'm back. I know you missed me. Love, Vee-Christine

A name for a bug? You've got to over your attachment to things with legs and wings, honey. Now, I can totally understand your attachment to the chick...He is a doll!

Adorable! I'm so glad her patience paid off! I went out to see our new addition this morning to find it dead, and the other eggs not warm enough, so I have put Spooky back out with the flock. This was her first time so I guess she just didn't know what to do :(
