Chickens in the Basement

I love to write and I love to laugh. When I write, I get to the point quick. My stories would fit on the back of a postcard. They usually make me chuckle. And you know what they say, "It's all about me!"

Another One Bites the Dust...

This Easter, several of us have written stories about dead rabbits on our blogs. Chris' great grandmother killed two rabbits to cook. She was photographed holding them while a small child looked on. I wrote about finding a dead rabbit in the field during an Easter egg hunt when I was 3ish. Another blogger wrote about a dead rabbit, too, but for the life of me, I can't find it again!

Well, today, I think my Riley dog scared a future Easter Bunny to death!
~~~~
I was planting a curly willow tree by the cemetery and had left the gate to the cemetery open because Riley Dog likes to go in there to chase lizards. He zoned right in on something in the grass. I was digging up a tree and watching Riley out of the corner of my eye. All of a sudden, something furry darted across the cemetery with Riley Dog hot on it's trail. I tried to rush in to intervene when more furry things came pouring out of the ground. I counted 6 in all. Riley Dog just kept running and chasing.
~~~~
One little fellow fell out in the grass. I picked him up quickly so Riley Dog wouldn't grab him. He was completely still. I held him up to my ear trying to hear a heartbeat. Nothing. I felt something warm on my arm and realized his bowels had released and was running down my elbow. Poor baby!

This is what I could see from outside the fence.

This is what Riley Dog saw. The cemetery is now blocked off to Riley Dog. I watched for a long time, but never saw any rabbits return. I hope he didn't scare all of them to death!

It's not all doom and gloom in my yard. This periwinkle is blooming near the hen house.

I have variegated periwinkle, too.

My first azalea popped open!

And the red bud trees are in full bloom!

I can't remember what this shrub is called, but it is completely covered in pink spiky blooms. I'm surprised all this pink shows through all of the pine pollen. My white truck is currently yellow. With no rain in sight, we'll be leaving footprints in the pollen.

Happy Easter...and hopefully, one of the five remaining babies will grow up to be the Easter Bunny!

Oh, what a sad story!! Didn't you just cry?
Your flowers are beautiful, so nice to see them after a long cold winter. Our redbuds are all burst out, too. I love them!

Have a good week!

Aw poor baby rabbit. Riley was just doing his job but it's sad when a little one dies like that.

Easter carnage! Its nature in balance I suppose. Put the little guy to rest under some of those pretty blossoms. The rodent population has been decreasing around here too. My cat has bing bringing home presents for weeks now. Too bad I don't want em!

Good lord--did I start something evil with that Granny/Dead Bunny post?! Yes, it's just a dog doing what a dog does but I HATE it when they scare baby animals to death. Our dogs give all the lizards and frogs around here heart attacks on a daily basis--or at least they have a temporary heart attack until I walk up and lean over to coo over the dead creature who then suddenly comes back to life and scares the holy s**t out of me. So then I immediately stomp it to death. Love your flowers--our azaleas are blooming and the pollen has rendered our vehicles a soothing shade of powdery yellow. The local car washes are doing GREAT business!

The pollen is just about killing me here! I keep hosing off the sides of the house, porch, etc. Everything is yellow and it KILLS ME, lol!

You have gorgeous flowers around your house!

Followed you over from a post on another blog - just wanted to say your rooster is adorable. :) There's nothing like a good roo. I am no longer allowed to have my banty roos here in town, so one of my hens has taken over - she crows and even grew spurs. Weird. She still lays occasionally, too. Her name is Eowyn.

WV = evole. As in "evole" city regulations that don't let a person have a crowing rooster in town.

*sniff, sniff* maybe it wasn't dead...?

At least the others got out ...they'll be moved if mama is smart.

Your flowers are gorgeous!
