Chickens in the Basement

I love to write and I love to laugh. When I write, I get to the point quick. My stories would fit on the back of a postcard. They usually make me chuckle. And you know what they say, "It's all about me!"

YUCK!

Saturday, I made the best pot of broccoli cheese soup that I have ever tasted! Nothing low cal about it! Tons of cheese, ham broth, whipping cream, broccoli. It was so good! We ate it for lunch and dinner. Saturday night, I went to an auction (a photo post coming soon!) and left the pot of soup on the back burner of the stove (Don't be a smartass! The stove was off!) When I got home, it was late. I unloaded the car and went to bed.

The next morning, the pot was still on the stove. We were rushing off to church and I didn't stop to put it in the fridge. Last night, the pot was still there. I knew we weren't going to eat it now, but wasn't sure what to do with it. So, I left the pot on the back burner.

This morning, a decision had to be made! The smell gave me the boost I needed. The odor was so bad, I'm surprised the air wasn't green! Cabbage, collards, old farts all mixed together. There has to be a solid form of this odor somewhere in the house.
I poured the sludge into the trash can, tied the bag, put it in the outdoor trash can, tied that bag, put it in the truck and took it to the dump. The smell lingers.
I've sprayed pumpkin Febreeze. It just enhanced the cabbage smell. I've left doors open. I'm burning candles. Nothing is working! I think I'm going to have to call the fire department and get them to bring the giant fan that blows all the smoke out of your house after you burn a pot of hummingbird food!

I'm accepting advice on chasing away a truly unpleasant odor!

Anna, what are we going to do with you??? But before I get too smarty pants about it, I have certainly done this same thing on occasions I care to forget.

Have you tried simmering a pot on the stove with some cloves and citrus in it, preferably oranges? That's what I do when I'm trying to erase an odor.

Your soup sounded so good, too.

Take a 13x9 pan and fill it with water. Add vanilla and cinnamon (cloves if you have them) and place in oven at about 300 degrees. Soon the house will smell like cookies, not farts.

LOL! Love the green *yuck* flame fumes coming off your pot of soup.

If you can spray the surrounding counter tops with a mild bleach solution and wipe everything down with that, followed by more airings and scented air sprays and such.

Mom used to put a pot of orange slices, cinnamon and cloves in water on the stove to simmer to help get rid of really bad odors. But, then it smells like Christmas in February lol...

My 6 year old nephew stayed with us Saturday night...he got sick with vomiting and diahrea...and it was everywhere. I felt bad for him, but damn if he didn't have my whole house stinkin'! He started in our bedroom (stripped and remade bed) and worked into the living room. Clothes and sheets and stuff were all just thrown out onto the porch till morning where they got a good spray from the hose before the wash machine! Lots of air refreshener, inscents, and windows open all day Sunday.

I feel your pain! YUCK! Try putting some cinnamon and vanilla in a pot and let it simmer...that is my best shot of a suggestion. And good luck. Had a situation here two weeks ago...my grandson got sick on the living room carpet. Need I say more? We ended up cleaning it and putting it outside to air out. Hope your chickens are on high ground with all this rain!

I'm completely confused--you made broccoli cheese soup with whipping cream and now your kitchen smells like cabbage? Did you get some of those candles that are specifically made to get rid of bad odors? They don't work, BTW. My advice to you is to set your house on fire again so that your fire guys have a legitimate reason to come out there. I'm SURE they know the way . . .

They say that coffee grounds - or coffee brewing - will take away odors. That is what the police use after a body is discovered after a crime.

Cook some fish, that will dispel the broccoli odor for sure! On second thought, make a batch of sugar cookies...I like that yummy idea better!

Anna Honey I have done the same thing with some bean soup I made once. I mean it was so foul I chocked on the smell. Cleaned everything and did the orange and cinnamon simmer and it helped.

I put a sauce pan on the stove and put in it a sliced apple, a sliced orange, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and gloves. Fill the pan up with water and let simmer. When the water gets lows just refill. It lasts a good 2 or 3 weeks and is chemical free. Good luck.

I totally loved the pic with green stink flames.....hahahaha

And I didn't know you were a Carolina girl either! I've lived in Apex (via Chicago) for 17 years :)
