Chickens in the Basement

I love to write and I love to laugh. When I write, I get to the point quick. My stories would fit on the back of a postcard. They usually make me chuckle. And you know what they say, "It's all about me!"

Flower Frogs and Snow Days

Remember these?

A couple of days ago, I asked you which one of these things is not like the other.

The answer is Number 3. It's a furniture coaster! Thanks to Auction Dave, I didn't try to shove flowers in it. On my behalf, I think I would have figured it out, but it made me think this would be a good contest for my blog!

These girls got it right!

Since I had such a good time when Cora drew a winning name last week, I thought I would let Skippy give it a try. Since we have lots of snow, the girls and Skippy (Hazel, too, but I still think of him as a girl) were still in the hen house.

When I opened the door, the chickens were having a little snack inside. It's just too cold to venture out! I can't say I blame them!

I gathered the pieces of folded paper in my hand and held them out to Skippy. He kept looking at me as if to say, "That is not food."

But eventually, he did snag one of the names. (Stupid Blogger is flipping my photos again!)

The winner is...

Hope at Pixie's Ponderings. She's my first overseas winner!

Woohoo! Thanks everybody for playing!

Am I the only person who collects flower frogs? I'll have to show you some of my favorites, sometime soon. I haven't taken photos yet and don't want to get out of my chair right now! Lazy girl, I am!

While I was out torturing Skippy, I walked around my yard and got some photos of the snow. Isn't it funny how snow makes everything look so clean?

This metal bird used to hover among my roses until they all got yucky and I dug them up and gave them to Pretty Sam!

Last year, the top of this tree broke off when we had freezing rain. It's still gorgeous!

I was surprise to find the newspaper at the end of the driveway, especially when our road looks like...

THIS!

Knowing that we will eventually want to get out of the house, Will took a turn shoveling snow. Tony and Rick worked on it yesterday, but more snow fell after they were done!

If I could clear some of the crap out of my garage, my truck might fit inside!

My cement chickens tickled me. Under the snow somewhere are three cement chicks! Gives new meaning to the term "frozen chicken"!
After lunch, we decided to take a family walk up to the main road to see if it looked any better than ours. It did not.

Of course, Stunt Boy had to ride his bike and pop wheelies almost the whole mile long walk! I have already told him we can't get out of the driveway to get to the emergency room, so if he needs stitches, I'll be doing them with pink cross-stitch thread and a needle held over an open flame for sterilization! I don't think he believes me!

Just look at that blue sky! None of the animals were in the pasture on the right. In the distance I could see about 6 peacocks roosting in a tree, but couldn't get close enough for a photo. From where I was, they looked like trash bags had blown up and caught on limbs!

Tony told me I had too many clothes on before we went on the walk, but since I'm always cold, I didn't believe him. I was ready to strip down when we got back to our driveway!

Time for hot chocolate for Rick, a rug in front of the fireplace for Riley Dog, and Will is off for more sledding and Stunt Boy behavior. Check his forehead next week for those pink stitches!

Yup! Kyle went out for about two hours this morning and was done. I am not even sure if he want to be home from school tomorrow. He is kinda sick of the snow now!

flower frogs are the new 'hot' collectible. I have a really cool one that was inside a 1930's vase that I use all the time. I should take a picture of it and post it to my blog...

And, for the record, I nver win anything...lol! How appropriate that the chook should pick my name!

The snow is beautiful, we received about 4 inches between last night and this morning. It made for some great coffee and alone time when I was up early and family slept in. I have three metal frogs I found in my house when we bought it. They were left over from the original owners and had been boarded up in a room under the stairs. My home was built in 1932 and counting us it has only had 2 owners. Who know how long the frogs have been sitting around...

Your snow is beautiful even if you wish it were gone!! Congrats to Pixie! I love flower frogs but havne't seen any in my price range. Maybe this summer on the longest yard sale I will find some.

Congrats to Pixie.

Tell Skippy I have a pot all ready for her...

Just kidding. It wouldn't be right to cook a chicken for a frog, would it?

Your pictures are beautiful!!

never met a flower frog collector before....you're my first!
I don't remember ever seeing one even, I'll be on the look out now though since they are about to become the "hot" collectible according to Pixie.
Have a great week,

I still don't know what a flower frog is. I'm not gonna google it. I'm lazy, too. :) We got about 3 inches of snow, but it got covered with freezing rain and sleet. You could ice skate on our yard. Not what I had in mind for snow. Hot water to the chicken water, as usual.

I had no idea that thing was a furniture pad! You learn something new everyday...
How much snow did ya'll wind up getting? We got about 7" or 8". It was fine by Sunday though.
Hope you're staying warm and drinking lots of hot chocolate!

No, no please don't tell them yet! The contest is open until Sunday.....so the Pink Sat. gals can join in. Had a few already who are close, but nobody is spot on yet!

Love your snowy road pics - and yes, you did have plenty of layers on, but then you're a Southern Belle, delicate and not used to the chilly weather, right?????
I wish I had mum's frogs - she had those heavy glass ones.

I've not made it out yet - perhaps tomorrow.

I remember when my 8 year old stunt boy caught the sharp corner of a snow shovel in his nostril. The neighbors had to dig us out of our street so we could take him to emergency. Yuk, red snow everywhere. We left Alaska shortly after for sunny California. We still have snow occasionally. I feel for you. Sure is pretty though. I'll be whining about the triple digits soon enough.

Wow, you really ARE in the middle of a frozen tundra right now, aren't ya?

And nope, you're not the only one, I have TONS of flower frogs, I love 'em! All sizes, although I prefer the prickly ones best.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
